Natural, regulated mechanism by which a cell destroys its own nonfunctional or unnecessary components, or itself.

autofagi [SWEDISH]

Cellers egenskap att kunna skilja ut och bryta ned skadade eller överflödiga beståndsdelar genom autofagosomer. Autofagi spelar en stor roll i biologisk metamorfos och i samband med osteoklasters nedbrytning av benvävnad. Defekt autofagi hänger samman med ett flertal olika sjukdomar inklusive neurodegenerativa sjukdomar och cancer.
