Ett blastema är en heterogen cellmassa som genom migration och proliferation övergående bildas på skadestället och genomgår morfogenes för att bilda det saknade organet. Vi använder morfogenes eftersom det hänvisar till organogenes (dvs organutveckling under embryonal utveckling), men som sker i vuxen form.
