Tekniskt dokument (i elektroniskt format, förkortas eCTD) som innehåller all information om kvalitet, säkerhet och effektivitet i ett gemensamt format. CTD är organiserad i fem moduler. Modul 1 är regionspecifik och modul 2, 3, 4 och 5 är avsedda att vara gemensamma för alla regioner. I juli 2003 blev CTD det obligatoriska formatet för nya läkemedelsansökningar i EU och Japan, och det starkt rekommenderade formatet för NDA som lämnats in till FDA, USA.
