Egendom som är resultatet av intellektuell prestation. Hit hör t ex patent, varumärken, litterära och konstnärliga verk, fotografisk konst, växtförädlingsprodukter osv. Genom immaterialrätten tillförsäkras upphovsperson eller uppfinnare ensamrätt till sitt verk under en av internationell konvention eller nationell lagstiftning fastställd tidsperiod. Immaterialrättens organisation administreras av FN-organet World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
