Participant/group in an experiment to which the factor being tested is not applied, thereby serving as a standard of comparison for evaluating experimental observations as a result of the factor.

Den deltagargrupp i en klinisk prövning som endera får overksam behandling eller en för närvarande ordinär behandling. Gruppens resultat jämförs med dem i en grupp som får en ny behandling, till exempel ett nytt läkemedel. Termen gäller också kontrollgruppen i en fall-kontrollundersökning.
