natural killer T (NKT) cell [ENGLISH]

Natural killer T (NKT) cells are lymphocytes that express both a T-cell receptor (TCR), characteristic of adaptive immunity, and surface receptors for NK cells, which are part of the innate immune response. These cells influence diverse immune responses, including the surveillance for tumours, the maintenance of self-tolerance and the regulation of autoimmune diseases.

Naturliga mördar-T-celler (NKT cells) är en särskild typ av lymfocyter som har egenskaper både från det adaptiva immunförsvarets T-celler och det ospecifika immunförsvarets naturliga mördarceller (NK-celler). Till skillnad från vanliga T-celler som känner igen ett peptid-antigen som presenteras av MHC-molekyler, så känner NKT-celler igen glykolipid-antigen som presenteras av en molekyl som kallas CD1d. När dessa celler aktiverats kan de utföra funktioner som vanligen tillskrivs både Th och CTL-celler (det vill säga cytokinproduktion och utsläpp av cytolytiska apoptos-molekyler).
