Anatomic, therapeutic, chemical. International system for classification of medicines maintained by World Health Organisation.

ATC [SWEDISH]

Ett system för klassificering av läkemedel som bland annat förvaltas av WHO. ATC-systemet består av 14 huvudgrupper, där läkemedlen placeras utifrån sina huvudindikationer. Utöver dessa huvudgrupper klassificeras läkemedlen på fyra olika nivåer: andra och tredje nivån är vanligen en terapeutisk/farmakologisk subgrupp, fjärde nivån en kemisk subgrupp och femte nivån den kemiska substansen. I de fall olika läkemedel innehåller samma aktiva substans, men har klart skilda indikationer och används i väsentligen olika doser hamnar läkemedlen i olika grupper.
