electroporation [ENGLISH]

Process of introducing genetic material into a cell by applying a high-voltage electrical current to cells to open temporary pores in the cell membrane and therefore increase permeability.

elektroporering [SWEDISH]

En teknik för att med hjälp av elektriska stötar, med en intensitet av flera kilovolt per cm och mikrosekunders till millisekunders varaktighet, åstadkomma tillfällig förlust av cellmembraners semipermeabilitet. Därvid uppstår jonläckage och utflöde av metaboliter, samt ökat upptag i cellen av t ex läkemedel, sondmolekyler och DNA. Speciella tillämpningar av elektroporteknik kan gälla införande av plasmider eller främmande DNA i levande celler för transfektion, sammansmältning av celler för hybridomutveckling, samt implantering av proteiner i cellmembran.
