Small noncoding RNA molecules that play a role in the regulation of gene expression and have been implicated in the pathogenesis of a variety of diseases, making them a target for therapeutic strategies.

mikroRNA [SWEDISH]

Små, dubbelsträngade, icke proteinkodande RNA, med en längd av 21-25 nukleotider, vilka genereras från enkelsträngade mikroRNA-gentranskript av samma ribonukleas III Dicer som producerar små stör-RNA (små interferens-RNA). De utgör en del av RISC och undertrycker translationen av mål-RNA genom att binda till en homolog 3'UTR-region med ofullständig passning. stRNA let-7 och lin-4 från C. elegans är de två första miRNA som påvisats och tillhör en klass miRNA som medverkar i utvecklingstajming.
